Antoine de Lamothe Cadillacby John Pepp on Sunday, June 21, 2020
Well, if this statue is taken down or has been taken down at least I took a picture of Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac.
It might be taken down because he was a jerk and greedy. W. J. Eccles described him as “one of the worst scoundrels ever to set foot in New France”. Now ask me this if it wasn't for the statue would anyone of you ever had known this?
I think GM has to change the Cadillac brand name also. (I'm being sarcastic)
Momby John Pepp on Saturday, May 9, 2020
Tomorrow is Mother's Day and I while I miss her everyday that day I miss her even more. "My was was a good egg" and that saying I partially stole from my late Aunt Mary. I remember one of my last conversations that I had with my mother. It was after she was ill with Alzheimer's and I was watching TV late one evening in the family room. It was around 1:30 am and I hear my mother shouting "I want my shake" while walking out to the living room using a walker. The shake my mom was referring to was an Ensure drink, so naturally I had to go out to the living room to calm her down. I said "Mom, it's One O'Clock in the morning, go to bed". She yelled "I'm not going to bed until I have my shake!". So I reluctantly went to the fridge and got her the shake. As I was giving her shake in a plastic cup I said "Let's not make this a habit of doing this at 1:30 in the morning".
The strange thing is that my mom all of the sudden became herself. I don't know exactly what she said, but it was something like - "I'm sorry I have been a burden to you and your father. You must hate me having to put up with me". My mom started to cry and I was on the verge of crying myself, but I kept it together and said "Don't be silly silly mom as I could never hate you and for all you have done for me this is no big deal". My mom finished her shake and I was able to talk her to go back to bed. I walked my mom back to her bedroom and cracked a joke "Please, just please don't make this a habit". You know the funny thing is? I would not mind now if my mom made it a habit now as that would mean she would still be living.
Put My Foot in My Mouthby John Pepp on Saturday, May 2, 2020
I think warmer temperatures have finally arrived here in Southeastern Michigan and yesterday was a beautiful day. The temperatures are supposed to be in the 70s (~20s) this weekend and hardly any rain (if any). The only downer is the "Stay-at-Home" order is still in effect until May 15, but hopefully life will start getting back to normal and places starting to be allowed to reopen.
The Year Without Baseball and Funby John Pepp on Friday, April 3, 2020
I know the book "The Stand" by Stephen King is a work of fiction, but when King writes that the virus is like an upside down Ponzi Scheme it is like he's describing the Coronavirus. This Coronavirus Pandemic is like a bad horror book or film coming to life that is leaving a wake of death and sorrow. The only problem is you can't skip over or fast forward to the end as there really is no definite end to it. I think if everyone in the world found a Genie in a bottle and only had one wish that one wish would be the Coronavirus never happened in the first place.
I think most people here in the United States ( and probably the rest of the world probably with different expectations/aspirations ) were looking forward toward the Winter to fade away so that Spring could make its grand entrance. There would be High School Graduations, the Baseball Season would officially start, "The Masters" would be played in Augusta, the Kentucky Derby would run for the roses, the engines would be roaring at the Indy 500 and so many other fun activities would occur all around the United States. March Madness would mean basketball not the beginning of madness of the Coronavirus. The NBA and the NHL would be having their respect playoff to determine their respective champions. Not a sad scorecard of people who have died or have been infected by the Coronavirus. Everything has been put on hold or have been cancelled for the year as if time itself has hit the pause button.
People because of COVID-19 are realizing the importance of jobs that they once seen as unimportant like grocery workers, truck drivers, people working in the medical professional, first responders and other essential jobs that I have failed to think of as truly important. Some people are starting to realize that they were foolish to look up to celebrities to their entertainment as some sort of holy grail of guidance. We have found out the true nature of our politicians in Washington D.C. and elsewhere in this great country love to squabble over who is at fault over the coronavirus epidemic. They play partisan politics while the people in this country suffer in many ways over this coronavirus pandemic.
My hope for this country as today is that the coronavirus pandemic is over quicker than projected, that people stay safe, people start working together and most importantly that everyone is an important part of a giant big wheel called life. When the virus has been beaten down to a pulp that is when I strongly want to see people having fun, going out to the mall shopping, watching baseball games, going out to eat and most of all returning back to the same jobs that they had before this bad nightmare started. As for the essential workers who are help so many others get through this tough time? The answer in my opinion should be a day of recognition such as a National Holiday that is spread over a few days so everyone of them can enjoy the time off to be with their family and friends. This pandemic will eventually end and hopefully ends soon, but in the meantime I hope that everyone stays safe. Peace Out!
The Farmsby John Pepp on Tuesday, March 17, 2020
Going to "The Farms" during summer vacation was like a magic journey to another life. No particular summer standouts over the any other summer as all of the were the same, but that doesn't mean it was a bad experience. Far from it, it's just if John had do tell what his all his summers at The Farm was like, the story would be longer than "War & Peace".
Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)by John Pepp on Sunday, March 15, 2020
Life as we know has gotten boring because of the COVID-19 virus, but hopefully in the end it will be worth it. As for me? It's a good thing I am not that big of a sports fan, but I have to admit I am a little disappointed the Detroit Tigers have postponed the season. However, it's only a game and when this is all over there will be baseball once again. Until then I'm going to enjoy the outdoors and take pictures of wildlife.
Squirrel in a Treeby John Pepp on Sunday, March 8, 2020
I really don't know how this squirrel sitting on a branch like this can consider it comfortable? The Squirrel is probably more interested in eating than being comfortable.
Eastern Gray Squirrelby John Pepp on Wednesday, February 26, 2020
This squirrel must be a Detroit Tigers fan as he/she jump on my next door neighbor's picnic table that she painted Detroit Tigers color. This has to be one of my better pictures of a squirrel as you can really see the squirrel's details and that the squirrel seem obvious to me takin a picture of him/her.

Downy Woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens)by John Pepp on Monday, February 24, 2020
The downy woodpecker is one of my favorite birds and I hope the bird comes back this Spring/Summer. I love the pecking sound the woodpecker makes when he strikes a tree. It's such a calming sound that I could fall asleep to if I were tired. Unlike the bigger birds this bird is actually kind of shy and will fly away very easily if disturbed. I thought it was weird that this woodpecker was looking for food in an empty bird feeder, but I guess this bird was a little hungry. It's amazing the different type of birds that are in my neighborhood. Hmm? I just read about the downy woodpecker only to find out that it is pretty common and it is not unusual for the bird to use a bird feeder.

Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)by John Pepp on Monday, February 24, 2020
Two Canada Geese flying low to the water at Newburgh Lake located in Hines Park, Wayne County Michigan. I used to take like taking pictures of Geese, but I have gotten tired and bored taking pictures of them. Geese are like giant rodent with wings on me and the only thing graceful about them is when they fly if formation or flying low to the water. They are not the nicest birds either, but they are not as nasty as the Mute Swan. They are not the easiest to photograph as their dark head make lighting a little difficult. Though I probably will still take pictures of them from time to time as you never know what they might do. Being such a large bird, I find it amazing that there are so many around here in Southeastern Michigan. I know Mute Swans have huge appetites, but the Canada Goose must not be too far behind in that category. I do say Geese tend to stay in large groups compared to Swans as I really haven't seen more than two swans together.

Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)by John Pepp on Monday, February 24, 2020
Spring is around the corner and I think someone is going to be having cygnets around that time. I do have to say these swans have a weird mating ritual as when they first started they both were dipping their heads into the water. They did this 3 or 4 times then I thought the male was going to kill the female as he actually submerged the female for about 10 seconds (I'm guessing) then let her surface then I starting laughing as I then realized what they were doing. They are monogamous and usually are for life unless they get a divorce (sorry bad joke about divorce). They are a symbol of love in many cultures. Though in some parts of the United States they are considered a pest as mute swans consume a large amount of vegetation and are aggressive when people get too close.
A Word of Caution
Give plenty of space to nesting Mute Swans. They can be extremely aggressive and frequently attack canoeists, kayakers, and pedestrians who wander too close to a nest or chicks.

Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)by John Pepp on Monday, February 24, 2020
I have to admit seeing these hawks fly is like no other bird I have seen before, as the hawk(s) are so graceful and their wingspan is truly amazing. One of the reasons I haven't taken any really good shots of them flying is I have been too memorized by them soaring in the air to press the shutter button on the camera. It is so true that typical hawks make that classic hawk squeal that you have heard in the movies, but in person the call of the red-tailed hawk gives even an eerie mystic to it.
The color of the tail is the reason it is called a Red-tailed Hawk! I have to add it looks like a kilt the hawk is wearing. For more information on the Red-tailed Hawk click on audubon.org
Red-tailed Hawk in Flightby John Pepp on Thursday, February 20, 2020
I don't know why but this red-tailed hawks always seems to find a dead squirrel across the street from me. This is the first time that I have be able to capture the hawk in flight. I like the picture, but I wish it was a little less noisy.
Trivia Game Improvements!by John Pepp on Sunday, February 9, 2020
I have made improvements to the game as now I can add and edit Trivia questions remotely by logging into the website. I still have a ways to go, but so far there are now glitches (knocking on wood). I wish there were more hours in a day as I like to tackle more, but over the last three weeks there have been major improvements to the game and to the website as well. There are features that I want to add to the trivia game that I think will make the game really cool. I also want to make this website responsive that way it will look good on mobile devices. I want to get most of this feature in the next couple of weeks in order that I can concentrate in making some money with my business.

LEGO Pepsterville Cityby John Pepp on Saturday, February 1, 2020
I am really making headway with this website and I think in a week or two that I will have it pretty much done. It doesn't take me too long once I put my mind to it. The next challenge is to make it 100 percent responsive in order to have this website look good on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Like I said yesterday, it's the small stuff that gets under my skin as I know there should be an easier way. I want to get this website done asap as I want to start concentrating back on my trivia game as I have plenty of neat ideas that I want to implement on the game.
It's been awhile since I posted!by John Pepp on Friday, January 31, 2020
It's been awhile since I posted on this blog, but hopefully I be posting a lot more in the future. This picture was taken at Belle Isle an island located of the City of Detroit. It was a cloudy day, but it wasn't too cold outside. As a matter of fact the weather lately hasn't been all that cold and this weekend it's supposed to go up to the 40s. I think Sunday and Monday are supposed to be the warmer days.
I have been really working on this website a lot lately and the thing that drives me batty is the little things that go wrong when coding and writing HTML/CSS. I should not let it bother me, but it just does as I want everything to be perfect. I know I have seen websites where there were a few minor glitches or design flaws, but it probably doesn't bother the webmaster. Though it does me and that is probably why I haven't really finished something totally, but this is one of my New Year's Resolutions that I made to myself. Another resolution is losing weight, but that is a long draw out story itself. I think I will make this a short post and write another post tomorrow. Bye for now!
My Missing Parts Came Inby John Pepp on Wednesday, May 1, 2019
My missing parts came in from via the U.S. Mail, so I decided to finish my 21517 LEGO Mickey Mouse Steamboat Willie set. Well at least I thought as I'm still missing 4 pieces of the set, but the good news is I should be able to finish in the next 10 to 14 days as that will probably be when I get the missing pieces. I am back to updating my website today and I have worked on it a little, but I need to motivate myself better and pickup the pace a little. If I don't, I probably won't be done until Christmas Time.
It's been cloudy most of the week and that doesn't make for good picture taking especially with a 400mm 4.5-5.6 lens. I'm trying to think of places I can go when the weather isn't that great around here in order to take pictures. I'm thinking about going to Henry Ford or Greenfield Village tomorrow to take pictures, but I will see how things go tomorrow. I like to take it one day at a time as one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
Easter Diner Even for a Goose!by John Pepp on Sunday, April 21, 2019
I can't believe Easter is already almost over! It just seem like yesterday that I was looking forward to Thanksgiving. Time sure flies when you're are way past 21 and I have come to learn to enjoy each day that I'm alive as no one knows what tomorrow may bring. I think tonight I am just going to relax and watch a little TV, but I might work on my website just a tad. I was thinking of going out again and taking some more pictures, but I'll be taking more pictures in the near future.
Happy Easter Everyone!
My Pet Duckby John Pepp on Wednesday, April 17, 2019
Here's my pet duck that I decided to let free at Hines Park.....I'm kidding. Though doesn't that duck look like it could be someone's pet?
I decided to take the Sony A9 and the Sony 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens to Hines Park (Wayne County, Michigan) to take some birding pictures. I am starting to learn a few things with the Sony A9 and the new 5.0 Firmware (I hope). I love the camera and can't wait to take a lot more pictures and hopefully warmer weather is just around the corner! I am eventually going to take my Sony A7RIII camera with the 100-400mm lens attached to the park to see how high resolution pictures of wildlife will look like. Though the Sony A9 camera is still going to be my go-to-camera as it is easier to take pictures of moving wildlife.
Nag Nag Nagby John Pepp on Tuesday, April 16, 2019
Well I have been working on my website as I'm trying to improve upon my calendar and how it interacts with the pictures that I have uploaded and other aspects of it as well. There is so much I want to do to this website that I keep telling myself to take one portion of the updating process of the website at a time. I also want to add a lot more useful content to the website like pictures, how to's and many other interests that I have. I also want to continue with my photography and hopefully warmer weather is around the corner in order for me to do so. I sometimes wish there were more than 24 hours in a day in order to do all that I want to get accomplished.
Bates Hamburgersby John Pepp on Friday, April 12, 2019
This Bates Hamburgers is located in Livonia on the corner of Farmington Road and File Mile Road. I believe they were celebrating their 50th year of being one of the best burger joint in Southeastern Michigan,
The above picture was taken with my Sony A9 camera that I wasn't planning on buying, but over the Christmas 2018 Holiday Season the sale price of it was too much to resist. I have to say it is one of the best decision that I have made as the Sony A9 compliments the Sony A7RIII that I bought 4 month prior to the A9. I use my Sony A9 primary for birds-in-flight pictures as the Sony A9 is better for Sports and Action shots. I purchased another tripod and gimbal head in order to track the BIF (Birds-in-Flight) shots, plus I bought a small folding chair when there isn't much action.
LEGO Steamboat Willieby John Pepp on Thursday, April 11, 2019
I love building LEGO and this LEGO Set caught my attention as I took a "History of Animation" course at Schoolcraft College when I was going for my Associates Degree. I will be putting this together over the couple of days and I will be adding additional pictures.
A Mallard Duck on Newburgh Lakeby John Pepp on Thursday, April 11, 2019
I'm trying to fix the problem of my links that my website has been having for a long, long time. It was such a simple fix that I feel really really stupid about admitting it.
LEGO Corner Garageby John Pepp on Wednesday, April 10, 2019
I have been building LEGO for almost 2 years now and it is a fun hobby. LEGO comes out with a new Creator Expert building every new year and the Corner Garage 10264 is this year's building. It is a nice building, but I like the previous year's building a little bit better which was the Downtown Diner 10260. I will be building the Steamboat Wille 21317 (Mickey Mouse) that I will be posting here and on other places. I have been working on this website for the last couple of weeks and I have been pleasantly pleased on how far it has come along. I now just have to finish it and incorporate the new features that I have in store for it.
Two Swans Flying At Wilcox Lakeby John Pepp on Wednesday, April 10, 2019
I'm finally getting my website the way that I like it, but I still have a ways to go with it. I want to incorporate the calendar that I developed with the pictures that I uploaded. I also need to get my website to be more responsive friendly for smartphones and tablets. I wish I would had done this years ago as I think I could had actually made a real good living off doing this kind of work. Though who knows I might still be able to do so. If anyone wants a website developed and design just contact me to see if we can work things out. I'll do a bunch of mockups and then have you choose which mockup you want. If you're are still undecided maybe do hand sketch of the website on a piece of paper and I'll make a mockup of that.
Livonia EMSby John Pepp on Wednesday, April 10, 2019
I was taking pictures of Bates Hamburgers that is located at Farmington Road and 5 Mile Road when a Livonia EMS Vehicle with its emergency flashers on came driving south on Farmington Road. I snapped the photo with my Sony A9 and Sony 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens with a 1.4x Teleconverter attached to it.
A Morning at Newburgh Lakeby John Pepp on Wednesday, April 10, 2019
I went to Newburgh Lake in Hines Park to take some pictures of the local wildlife. The weather is finally getting warmer, now all it has to do is get a little greener. I can't wait until some of these birds start having offspring as I think I'll even take more interesting pictures.
I don't understand why people have to throw trash in the lake and around it. It's really becoming an eyesore! Pick up your damn trash people when you leave!
